SALAMANCA, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Salamanca City School District hopes a bump in pay will bring more substitute teachers to the head of the class.

Effective January 14th, uncertified substitute teachers in the district will be paid $110 a day, up from $85 to $90. Certified teachers will receive $140 dollars a day, an increase of $40. Retired teachers from the district who choose to substitute will be paid $165 a day, up from $110.

"There is a serious shortage of high quality, certified substitutes all across NYS, especially so in rural Cattaraugus County," said superintendent Robert Breidenstein. "The continuity of instruction in every classroom at every instructional level requires sub positions to be filled consistently."
