Buffalo police: Human remains found in fire pit on Box Avenue

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo police say human remains were found in a fire pit on the 200 block of Box Avenue Wednesday night.

The evidence is being examined by forensic experts to identify the remains.

A source tells 7 Eyewitness News federal authorities are working with Buffalo police to see if there is a connection between these remains and the ongoing homicide investigation on Tonawanda Street.

A burned car with human remains inside was found in the area of 111 Tonawanda Street September 16th, the car was discovered about a mile away from where a 3-year-old Florida boy was found sleeping on a porch.

Police have since confirmed the burned car was the rental car the missing 3-year-old boy's parents drove to Buffalo from Florida.

Police released video that identifies persons of interest in this case last week.

The 3-year-old boy's parents and a friend are still considered missing at this time, police say it could take weeks to identify the remains found in the vehicle. The child's grandmother is hoping to gain custody of him soon.
