HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW) — Students were evacuated from Frontier Middle School in Hamburg due to a gas leak Wednesday morning.
According to a message on the school district's website, students were picked up from the high school auditorium with valid identification starting at 11:15 a.m. Students who weren't able to be picked up were served lunch and sent home on their regular bus.
The middle school remained closed for the day out of an abundance of caution.
National Fuel found that the gas leak came from the ceiling corridor adjacent to the gymnasium's hall. The gas line has been capped and permanently shut off at the source.
Classes at the middle school will resume as planned on Thursday.
