ALBANY, N.Y. (WKBW) — A New York State Trooper from Western New York who took part in rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero has died in the line of duty from an illness connected to her assignment following the terrorist attacks.
Trooper Jennifer Czarnecki died on Saturday, almost a month to the day after she retired because of her health.
Trooper Czarnecki dedicated 20 years of service to New York State Police, with assignments to Troops A and D. She had served in Troop A since 2003 and was last stationed in the Town of Boston.
Trooper Czarnecki is survived by her husband, mother an brother.
Of the 2,977 victims of the 9/11 attacks, 412 were first responders. More than 500 first responders, survivors and residents of Manhattan have died from 9/11 related illnesses in the 19 years since the attacks.
