BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Tamari, an 11-year-old female Amur tiger born at the Buffalo Zoo in 2007, has died.
The zoo says Tamari passed away on Saturday. For several years, the veterinary staff had treated her for a chronic gastrointestinal illness. She became less responsive to treatment over the past week. While examining her in recent days, veterinarians discovered she had "significant masses in her body."
"Considering that she has a strong family history of cancer, the Buffalo Zoo veterinary staff made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize her," the zoo said on its Facebook page.
The zoo says Tamari was known for her bold personality. She enjoyed swimming in the rain and rolling around in cinnamon scents.
