CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WKBW) — Most all of that beautiful fluffy white snow we had a couple days ago is now heavy, muddy and melting.
That's why crews are working hard to mitigate the threat of flooding. In Cheektowaga, an area that saw about a foot of snow over the weekend, highway workers have been busy removing snow from cal de sacs in Cheektowaga. The area saw about a foot of snow last weekend, and highway workers are busy removing snow so it doesn't melt and flood people's homes.
Cheektowaga Highway Superintendent Mark Wegner says crews remove about 100 loads of snow per day.
Anthony Cellino from Cellino plumbing says his crews have been busy fixing flooding issues and sewage backups.
"We've had a lot of flooding calls," he said. "With the freezing weather a lot of sump pump discharge lines are freezing up and there's no place for the water to go."
