BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — It’s time for back to school shopping… but this year is anything but normal.

“You definitely want to comparison shop if you’re comfortable going into stores, now’s a good time to go into the stores since a lot of people are shopping online,” Melanie McGovern from the Better Business Bureau said.

She says before you shop-- get your list and make a budget.

“Wait for your list so you are getting what you need. You don’t want to buy a ton of hand sanitizer and it turns out you don't need it. If you’re remote learning you want to make sure you have the right technology,” McGovern said.

Mcgovern says now more than ever it’s really important to make sure you’re using a reputable seller.

“Make sure you have those security programs running at all times, that your malware is running and people aren't clicking on links that they shouldn’t," McGovern added.

“I can’t tell you how many times a day I see fake ads on my social media for name brand products at really low prices if it’s more than half off-- you def don’t want to shop at that website.”

Mcgovern says it’s important to:

  • Read the reviews,
  • Do your research,
  • Be patient. Many companies are experiencing shipping delays because of the high number of orders nationwide.
