HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW) — Hamburg police have identified the woman, stabbed to death, inside the Sears at the McKinley Mall.

Police say 38-year-old Mallicia U. Tipps was killed by her ex-boyfriend Keith Sparks. Sparks, 43. He surrendered to police after an hours-long stand-off in Niagara Falls Wednesday night.

In a press release, Hamburg police say crews tried to save Tipps, who was stabbed several times. Crews "worked on" Tipps for 15 minutes, they say, but her injuries were too severe.

"Sparks apparently followed Tipps’ vehicle to the Sears parking lot where she and a friend were going to shop," police explain. "In an attempt to flee, Tipps and her friend ran into the store where Sparks pursued them and grabbed Tipps and stabbed her several times."

Sparks became a suspect after police spoke with eyewitnesses and family members. They watched surveillance video from around the area. It's unclear what that video shows.
