BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — In celebration of National Travel and Tourism week, Visit Buffalo Niagara wants to give back to the community with a 'buy one, get one free' promotion at 15 attractions around Erie County.

They're calling it 'Be a Tourist in your Own Hometown.'

Starting Sunday, you can grab a friend or family member, and visit the Buffalo and Brie county Botanical Gardens, the Buffalo History Museum, Heritage Village and more.

"We have found that our best ambassadors are our residents," said Patrick Kaler, President and CEO of Visit Buffalo Niagara. "And our visitors that do come to our destination truly like to find out what the locals like to see and do."

Tourism in Erie county is a $1.8 billion industry, and employs more than 32,000 people.

Erie County collected more than $221 million dollars in sales tax from out-of-town visitors in 2017 alone.

Throughout next week, VBN Staff will hand out locally made sponge candy to 300 flight attendants staying in the area as part of the 'Random Acts of Kindness' week.

On Tuesday night, several downtown buildings will be illuminated red, which is the color of National Travel and Tourism week.
