AKRON, N.Y. (WKBW) — Actor and director John Krasinski was in Western New York this week scoping out locations for the sequel to his 2018 movie.
Cheryl Johannes owns the Candy Apple Cafe in Akron. She says Krasinski's location scout manager approached her on Tuesday about using the cafe as a shooting location. Crews would need to use the space for three days, and Johannes would be compensated for it.
"I guess they're really happy with Main Street in Akron, said Johannes, "but I'm not sure if they're going to choose us."
Johannes says the location scout manager told her they were visiting more than 100 possible small towns and villages as potential backdrops for the film.
Johannes also had the opportunity to meet Krasinski and take a photo with him. She described him as a "genuinely nice man," and says she hopes he picks Akron.
"It's a Paramount picture so it would be a really big boost to our area if they choose Akron," Johannes said. "It would put us on the map."
Krasinski is well known for playing Jim on all nine seasons of "The Office." Last year he co-wrote, directed and starred in "A Quiet Place" with his real life wife, Emily Blunt. The movie chronicles a family's fight to survive in a world that has been overrun by creatures that will attack anything that makes noise. The film was shot in Dutchess and Ulster Counties in upstate New York.
Crews would not name "A Quiet Place" as the sequel that's in the works, but said it will be a sequel to Krasinski's 2018 movie. "A Quiet Place" was Krasinski's only film project in 2018 and was also produced by Paramount Pictures.
