Mary and Don Campanella returned to Western New York after living in North Carolina for 15 years. They moved due to complications with Don's Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Don was diagnosed with MS when he was just 15 years old. He said it affects every aspect of his life, and hinders him from doing the things he wants to do.
"I used to ride my bike two to three hours a day," Don said.
Mary said the transition back to WNY itself brought about some tough times, but one neighborhood in Lockport changed everything.
"Lo and behold we found a little home - just the same colors, like a mini-me of the house in North Carolina right here," Mary said. "It was like a saving grace. I was finally happy that we were able to get our start here."
And now, another house in that neighborhood could help the lives of Western New Yorkers living with MS.
A home in the same development was run down when the Campanellas found it, but they contacted their friend Tony Ferro, founder of Change MS. With the help of his friend and contractor Mike Sidorski, they flipped the home and are now raffling it off to benefit MS research and care.
