AAA Warning: Cloudy headlights are putting you at risk

Deteriorated headlights can reduce light output by 80%

New research by the AAA shows vehicles with clouded or yellowed headlights are a serious safety hazard as they only allow 20% of light that new headlights do.

The problem is the plastic used for the lenses.

Sunlight (UV), road grim and the heat from the headlight bulb can deteriorate the plastic lenses so badly over time that they block more light than they pass.

AAA is recommending that all drivers check their headlights and take steps to make corrections.

In addition, the AAA is offering its members $5 off the purchase of a DIY lens restoration kit when bought from any NAPA auto parts store through February 2019.

7 Eyewitness News Reporter Ed Reilly takes a closer look at the options for repair from replacement to pro restoration to home DIY kits.
