BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Gas prices around Western New York rose sharply in the last week, following the national gas price trends.

Since February 8, the average price for a gallon of gas in Buffalo rose by five cents. In Batavia, gas prices jumped eight cents.

Gas prices are hovering around $2.52 per gallon in both cities. But in both cities, the price dropped from February 2020 to February 2021.

Experts say the prices are rising because crude oil inventories are diminishing and refinery utilization is increasing.

The national average price for a gallon of gas is about $2.51.
