WYOMING COUNTY, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Wyoming County Sheriff’s office is reminding people the Social Security Administration (SSA) will never call to threaten benefits or demand money.

This comes after an influx in social security scamming calls across Western New York.

A resident reported getting a call form the Wyoming County Sheriff’s office saying an investigator was looking into the resident and requested $1500 in payments via Wal-Mart gift cards.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office does not have any investigators working with the Social Security Administration.

Here is what a scam call might sound like, so you know what to avoid.
