A 23-year-old man has been arrested after in connection to the death of a 2-year-old boy in Buffalo's Kaisertown neighborhood, according to police.

The incident happened Tuesday around 2:45 p.m. at a home in the first block of Weaver Street.

Bashar Hall is accused of beating and shaking a 2-year-old boy. The boy was his girlfriend's son.

The 2-year-old was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hall's two children, a 1-year-old and a 2-month-old, as well as his girlfriend were all home at the time of the alleged beating.

His girlfriend, Keona Owens, spoke to 7 Eyewitness News, forgiving Hall and calling what happened an accident.

Hall is charged with first degree manslaughter. He pleaded not guilty in Buffalo City Court. Bail is set at $500,000. He's set to appear in court for a felony hearing on July 23rd.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn says, "Whatever they (a child) do, it doesn't justify the type of parental action, in this case it wasn't a parent, but it doesn't warrant beating or shaking a baby. Nothing does. When I see this and I hear this, it upsets me greatly." Flynn says he will wait for the autopsy before deciding whether or not to up manslaughter charge to murder.
