New York State Police say a man died Tuesday evening from injuries he sustained in an automobile crash on Grand Island.
The accident happened around 6:15 p.m. on Stony Point Road just north of Bedell Road.
Police said 36-year-old Jeremy Wallens was traveling north on Stony Point Road in a 2009 Dodge Avenger when he crossed into the opposite lane and hit a 2011 Ford Ranger head on.
Wallens was taken via Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Police believe the Grand Island resident was not wearing his seatbelt, and this contributed to his death. They also suspect alcohol was involved.
Wallens' passenger, 47-year-old Lori Niemann, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
23-year-old Brandy Whitting was driving the Ford Ranger at the time of the crash. She suffered minor injuries.
The New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was on the scene to recreate and investigate the crash.
There are charges at this time.
