More street lighting is planned to be added to a stretch of Niagara Falls Boulevard where five pedestrians have been hit and killed over the last six years , according to The Buffalo News.
The plan comes after another victim was hit Wednesday while crossing the road in front of Checkers near Thistle Avenue to go to work there.
The Buffalo News article says the announcement from Town of Tonawanda's Office of Planning and Development hopes adding lighting will improve traffic safety during non-daylight hours. Most of these pedestrian deaths on the 1.2 mile stretch of Niagara Falls Boulevard have occurred at night.
The general manager at Checkers says those at the restaurant want lights and a crosswalk put in at the intersection of Thistle Avenue and Niagara Falls Boulevard where the most recent accident happened. Management at the restaurant is advising employees to use the crosswalk further down the street.
