At least three cars were involved in a traffic accident on Interstate 190 between exit 17 and 18 on Grand Island. The accident happened sometime around nine o’clock Wednesday morning. It caused a massive backup at the Grand Island Bridge, north bound.
7 Eyewitness News Photographer, David Morales and Reporter, Justin Moore were both stuck in the traffic, as they were on their way to Niagara Falls. They talked to a lot of frustrated drivers.
Tim Kane was one of the drivers. He works in the emergency room at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital. Kane said the hospital was already short staffed and he needed to get there as soon as possible.
“Kind of gave them the heads up. They said good luck and get here when you get here,” Kane said.
Kane was left waiting for more than 30 minutes. But he wasn’t alone. There was an ambulance stuck in traffic as well. Some frustrated drivers even made illegal u-turns right before the tolls. They were going the wrong way, just to get where they needed to go.
A trucker named Joel, got stuck behind the accident as well. He’s been on the road since yesterday. Joel is trying to get from North Carolina to Toronto to deliver live seafood.
“We want to try to get through as fast as we can, right, or else we’ll have a whole bunch of dead fish,” Joel said.
After about an hour, traffic did start moving again.
