Many churches cancel services due to coronavirus

Parishes are urging caution and the use of streaming services

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — In light of the growing Coronavirus national health emergency, several churches are taking the following steps to prevent the spread of the virus:

EPISCOPAL DIOCESES OF NORTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA AND WESTERN NEW YORK - Suspending all Sunday worship starting this weekend and for the next three weeks. Other diocesan events are suspended effective immediately. It affects 60 churches in WNY and 40 in Northwestern PA.

ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF BUFFALO - Bishop Edward Scharfenberger is temporarily dispensing Catholics from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days during the coronavirus threat. All other parish events and larger celebrations, including Confirmations and Lenten penance services, must be postponed until the end of March out of an abundance of caution. WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, BUFFALO - No Sunday worship. Live-stream only. Concerts and other events cancelled through March 31.

TRUE BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH, BUFFALO - No Sunday service at any of the church's locations. All events cancelled through March 15. Services are available to watch through the church's on-demand website(Click here).

THE CHAPEL CROSSPOINT CAMPUS, GETSVILLE - No gathering this weekend. People are encouraged to watch the live-stream instead. More information click here.
