PG&E says its equipment likely led to the massive Camp Fire in California

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. today told investors its equipment was likely what sparked a massive wildfire that spread in California in 2018.

The conclusion regarding the Camp Fire was filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission and is based on reports to the California Public Utilities Commission and other agencies, USA Today reports.

The filing announces to shareholders that it estimates the Camp Fire will cost PG&E $10.5 billion in charges — and says that could be on the low end of estimation.

The cause of the wildfire is still technically under investigation. The fire killed 86 people and burned 14,000 homes in November.
