A plane operated by JetBlue was surrounded by a large police presence Tuesday evening near New York's JFK Airport runway before it could take off for a scheduled flight to Los Angeles due to a reported radio equipment problem.

The flight was slated to takeoff from New York at 7:30 p.m., but the incident was not reported until after 8 p.m., according to Port Authority and FAA officials.

"JetBlue 1623, an Airbus A320, experienced a radio equipment problem while taxing for departure at John F. Kennedy International Airport tonight at 8 p.m. The crew requested to return to the ramp. The FAA will investigate," an FAA statement read.

The all clear was given around 9:05 p.m. by the Port Authority.

Flights continued to takeoff and land at the airport.
