Shares of AT&T dropped Friday after the New York Times reported the Department of Justice opened a, anti-trust investigation into coordination by the carriers to "hinder consumers from easily switching wireless carriers."

The NY Times piece includes information from anonymous sources and says those sources have knowledge of the inquiry. Read the NY Times report here.

The G.S.M.A., a mobile industry standards-setting group, is also part of the investigation, according to the NY Times. Complaints were filed with the Department of Justice several months ago, prompting the investigation, the sources told NYT.

None of the entities under investigation commented for the NYT report.
