Window washers trapped on scaffolding at the new World Trade Center building are safe.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 1 p.m. ET, where the workers were trapped 69 stories up. The scaffolding appeared to be dangling at a sharp angle.
Rescuers cut a hole in a window to reach the workers, who were connected to safety harnesses, according to New York media outlets. Reports indicate a cable had snapped on the motorized scaffolding.
The window washers were safe shortly after 2 p.m. ET.
The tower at 1 World Trade Center is the tallest skyscraper in the U.S.
