According to the natural gas provider National Fuel, the average winter heating bill is $215 less than last year.
Right now, about 545,000 National Fuel customers are opening their bills for December and the savings are spelled out in black and white.
"It was a pleasant surprise and you know right after Christmas it's always a nice surprise to get a low bill," one National Fuel customer told 7 Eyewitness News.
November 2015 was close to 25 percent warmer than normal and December, 35 percent warmer than average.
But the warmer weather isn't the only factor.
National Fuel also points to an abundance of domestically produced natural gas, falling price of crude oil, and natural gas purchased in bulk, all of which National Fuel says is saving customers money.
