Heavy snow and whiteouts to hit Erie and Genesee counties

Get ready! Heavy lake snow, whiteouts and even thundersnow will highly impact the afternoon and evening commute Wednesday.

A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday in Buffalo.

A band of heavy lake effect snow will develop Wednesday before moving south Wednesday night.

Northern Erie and Genesee counties will see an accumulation of two to four inches of snow Wednesday and one to three inches Wednesday night.

Wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour and visibility near zero at times will cause whiteout conditions.

Temperature lows will reach down to about 10 degrees Wednesday night.

A lake effect snow warning continues for Southern Erie County until 7 p.m. Thursday. Southern Erie County will see a total accumulation of 6 to 12 inches.

Winds in the south will reach 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 40 miles per hour, causing close to no visibility at times in this area as well. Temperatures are expected to dip into the teens.
