Could there be new life for the New Era Cap Company in Derby? The union representing 200 employees there has a new idea to try and save those jobs.
The Communication Workers of America is asking the company for information so it can look for a new investor to take over the plant that is set to close by February. The idea is to sell the plant to a new owner who can then continue cap production and sell the product back to New Era.
New Era announced a few weeks ago that it is closing the Derby plant because it wants to get out of the manufacturing business. The company produces most of it's caps overseas and at a facility in Florida.
We have contacted New Era and are waiting for a response to the union's proposal.
