New lights will give fans a better view

Sabres fans can expect an enhanced experience with the installation of a new energy-reducing LED system.

Eaton, a power management company in Syracuse, will be installing its advanced Ephesus sports lighting LED and controls system before the Sabres' first pre-season game on September 27. The new system will reduce energy use by as much as 75 percent.

The Sabres have played under the energy-efficient sports lights before. Vice President of Administration of the team, Michael Gilbert, says this lighting improves visibility both on the ice and in the arena bowl.

"Implementing this industry-leading system for First Niagara Center will allow us to continue to provide a world-class venue for both players and fans," said Gilbert.

The new lighting system will connect to the arena's existing control system and is the only LED system with 100 percent dimming capabilities. Even though it has significantly less fixtures than the previous lighting system, Eaton's Ephesus sports lighting has the most effective lighting that illuminates more uniformly on the playing surface, making a better stage for players and fans watching live and on high-definition television.

The Ephesus LED system is also easy to install, almost maintenance-free for years, and has the lowest total operating costs compared to other traditional sports lighting systems.
