Buffalo Police officers took quick action to rescue two children locked in a car on one of the hottest days of the year.

Police say Northeast District Officer Peter Nguyen responded to a gas station at East Amherst and Holden around 5 p.m. Tuesday, where a driver had accidentally locked her keys inside her car with two young children.

Nguyen used his baton to break open a window. He and officer James Hall Jr. then removed the children from the vehicle.

One of the children appeared to be going in and out of consciousness, according to police. Hall immediately brought the child into the gas station to reduce her temperature and offer first aid.  The temperature outside had surpassed 90 degrees earlier in the day.

The two children were taken to Women and Children's Hospital and later released.

The driver of the car is not facing charges.
