Over 500 reenactors from all over the U.S. and Canada came to partake in what's one of the largest War of 1812 reenactments at Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown.

Byran Andrews is one of the hundreds that traveled to the fort this weekend.  He drove over 11 hours from Indiana to portray Royal Navy Officer, Lord William FitzRoy.

He said his passion for history stems from becoming involved in reenactments at a young age.  At just 19, he recalls his first reenactment at age 2 and adds that he's been hooked ever since.

These reenactments, for him, are more than just fun.  They are a chance for visitors to get to experience firsthand what it was like during that time--much different, he said, than what you learn in the classroom.

The weekend at Old Fort Niagara isn't just about the fighting.  Visitors also had the chance to see what it was like to actually live during those times--they even could pick up the latest 1800s fashion.

Old Fort Niagara continues War of 1812 events throughout the weekend.  To see the complete schedule, head to their website.
