One pedestrian died and several others were injured after being struck by a car in Redondo Beach on Wednesday night, police said.
One adult died at the hospital, and at least one child was among the hurt, police said. Some of the injured people were transported to area hospitals in critical condition.
According to police, the crash happened outside of a church where a Christmas performance had just ended. A woman was driving northbound on Pacific Coast Highway through the intersection of Vincent Street when she ran a red light, struck the pedestrians, and hit another car, police said.
Initial reports indicated as many as 12 pedestrians were possibly injured, but police did not immediately confirm an exact number.
The driver has been detained. It was not immediately clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. An investigation was ongoing.
