Children under 14-years-old could soon be required to wear helmets while skiing or snowboarding.
A bill that would enforce that was just passed by the New York State Senate.
Under the bill, parents or guardians of children caught skiing or snowboarding without a helmet would be fined $50.
The legislation would also require ski operators to keep an inventory of helmets for rent and for sale. Operators must also publish the law on lift tickets.
According to the National Ski Areas Association, helmets can reduce the risk of head injuries by 30 to 50 percent.
