An anti-Carl Paladino group gathered on the stops of Buffalo's City Hall Tuesday afternoon in an effort to have Paladino removed from the school board after his comments about President Obama and the First Lady.
The Oust Paladino group encouraged African American women to stand with them against Paladino.
The group also demanded Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown demand the resignation or impeachment of Paladino from the board.
The Oust Paladino Facebook event had the following rallying statement:
"We want a frontline of 100 Black women to represent Michelle Obama
We want all sisters, of all colors and cultures to join us as the second line.
We want men to watch our backs.
We want hundreds of women that have the courage (and a very warm coat) to show up and demand that Mayor Byron Brown demand the resignation or impeachment of Carl P. Paladino from the Buffalo Board of Education."
On New Year's Day, Paladino took to Facebook and reiterated he will not be resigning from the school board. The following is his statement:
"Happy New Year Everyone! I am so grateful and feel very fortunate to have had such overwhelming support from so many loyal friends that made the choice to stand by me during this past week. i won't forget it ant I won't let you down again. I acknowledge that my words have undermined the good I had fought so hard for and they do not represent the man I truly am. I look forward to my continued hard work on the Buffalo School Board and as always, I will never give up my work on exposing public corruption. I do if for my love of Buffalo, our kids and love of my Country. Have a safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year!"
In order for Paladino to officially be taken off of the school board, a formal application for removal has to be submitted to open up a hearing. So far no applications have been submitted, but the Department of Education has received about 350 calls, about 200 emails, and about 25 letters and cards.
