New research shows pet owners are taking antibiotics that are meant for their dogs and cats.
Doctors at Baylor College of Medicine asked 400 people where they got their unprescribed antibiotics, and four percent of people who responded said they took them from their pets.
Veterinarians and doctors are warning that it's not safe to do that even if the medications are the same or similar to human drugs because dosages for people and animals are so different.
The study only focused on antibiotics, but the American Veterinary Medical Association advises vets to avoid giving unlimited refills of prescriptions or doing anything else that may lead to drug abuse.
