The owner of a local pet grooming center is back in court Tuesday to face 12 counts of animal cruelty.

Back in September, the Erie County SPCA seized 18 dogs and four cats from TLC Grooming Plus in Cheektowaga. Investigators say the animals were malnourished and covered in feces.

Authorities say 11 of the animals belonged to the center's owner, Tammy Pokigo.

The investigation began after a dog boarded at the facility for Labor Day weekend returned near death. The dog, named Sabre, was saved by local veterinarians.

Pokigo is facing 12 counts of animal cruelty. She has pleaded not guilty.

A judge's order bars her from owning, harboring, or having any custodial control of any animals. No expiration was given on the order. The SPCA is also conducting monthly inspections of her home in North Buffalo.
