If your apron says "Pierogi Queen" you better know what you're doing when it comes to making pierogis. Donna Darling of Cheektowaga definitely does. Even though she only started making pierogis two years ago, she has proven that she know's what it takes to make a perfect pierogi.
Donna won first place in the traditional category at the Pierogi contest last year at Corpus Christi Church. Her winning pillows of perfection were sauerkraut.
Donna is gearing up for this year's contest which takes place September 25th at Corpus Christi Church. Her family has enjoyed her pierogis but she was pleased and pleasantly surprised when she one last years's contest. Her winnings included a certificate, a golden rolling pin and a pink flamingo.
She has a few secrets, but one she can share is that her sauerkraut comes from her uncle Pete. Donna proudly admits "he makes his own".
For this year's contest Donna thinks she will stick with her winning recipe, but says she does mix it up at home sometimes making ham & cheese, corned beef & cabbage and buffalo chicken wing pierogi. You can find more information about this year's contest at the Corpus Christi Church website.
