Police in West Seneca arrested a knife-wielding man following a tense standoff where they held the man at gunpoint.
Officers were called to a Harlem Road apartment complex Friday night for a report of a drunk man knocking on someone's door and threatening those inside.
They approached the door of the suspect, 47-year-old Dwight Mitchell, and announced their presence. They said Mitchell then opened the door, clutching a large butcher's knife while in an aggressive fighting stance.
Officers drew guns and a Taser on Mitchell while ordering him to drop the knife. After initially refusing, Mitchell put the knife down and was arrested.
Mitchell was arraigned on charges of menacing, menacing a police officer, and criminal possession of a weapon. He was transported to the Erie County Holding Center and is due back in court at a later date.
