Deputies caught up to a drunk driver they say hit a vehicle in East Aurora on Sunday and then fled the scene.

The sheriff’s office received a call about a hit-and-run in the village and sent out deputies to find the vehicle involved. Officers say they found Joseph Barkalow II driving erratically and swerving into the oncoming lane on Rt. 20A in Orangeville with fresh damage to the front of his car.

The 26-year-old Prattsburgh man was pulled over and given field sobriety tests, which deputies say he failed. He later reportedly tested for a BAC of .13 percent. He is charged with DWI, driving with a .08 percent BAC or higher, consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle and failing to keep right. East Aurora Police charged him with leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

His passengers, 21-year-old Luke Gudinas, Jr. of Branchport and 21-year-old Timothy Morich of Penn Yan, are also facing charges. Deputies say both men were drinking alcohol in the vehicle. Gudinas is also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

Barkalow, Gudinas, and Morich are all due in court at a later date to answer the charges.
