A Williamsville doctor is accused of bilking insurance companies for around $800,000 in services he did not render.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Dr. Sreekrishna Cheruvu, who treats patients for opioid addiction, submitted false claims to insurance companies between January 2009 and May 2014.
Some of the alleged false claims included payment for individual therapy sessions when patients were seen in group therapy and services while Cheruvu was actually out of the country. Prosecutors say Cheruvu also submitted false claims for family members of patients who were not his patients.
The 58-year-old East Amherst man could face up to 10 years in prison if he is convinced of health care fraud.
