A deputy was attacked inside the Erie County Holding Center, according to a post on the Erie County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

The post says the deputy was attacked, when an inmate spit on the deputy's face, Monday.

A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office says the deputy was "escorting an inmate when the inmate turned and spit on his face."

The inmate could face criminal and administrative charges.

The Facebook post says this is the fourth attack in two weeks.

"Inmates spit at deputies as an act of disrespect as well as other motives," a spokesman said.  "Inmates also believe they won't face charges because they didn't physically attack the deputy...but in reality spitting is an assault."

There is no word on what happened in the previous attacks.
