Lancaster police are warning folks about an online scam, surrounding pictures that a scammer threatens will go public if you don't send money.

According to a post on their Facebook page, Lancaster police recently took a report for internet fraud and attempted extortion.

Police say the victim was talking to someone he thought he knew on Facebook.

The person asked the victim to send photos and videos of himself.

Later, once the pictures were sent, the person told the victim he needed to send money, or else the pictures and videos would go public.

Lancaster police have not said what these pictures and videos showed.

The victim was told they would be posted on various internet sites and sent to family and friends.

Lancaster police say you should not pay a scammer any money in this case.  "Those who have paid, report that the scammers came back the next day with demands for even more money," according to a post on the department's Facebook page.

It's unclear if any charges have been filed.
