Niagara Falls Police are searching for a man who allegedly opened fire on a group of women because police say his ex-girlfriend was among them.
Detectives began investigating at 8:30 p.m. Monday when shots were fired at 17th and Whitney, but officers only found several spent casings on the ground. A short time later, a 25-year-old woman came to the ER at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her lower leg. The woman told officers she was with several other women in a car when gunshots rang out and she was hit.
Further investigation led police to Jimmie Caldwell. Authorities say the 28-year-old Niagara Falls man opened fire on the women because his ex-girlfriend was in the group.
He is currently being sought on a warrant for second degree assault, second degree criminal possession of a firearm and first degree reckless endangerment. He also has outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of stolen property.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call 716-286-4711.
The woman who was shot was treated and released from the hospital.
