Police say while arresting a man for throwing a dog down a flight of stairs because he did not want it, they discovered he had also left a 2-year-old child home alone while at a neighbor’s house.
Officers were called to 116 Newland Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Monday when residents called to say there was a dog on the loose. Police located the pit bull and spoke to the people inside 116 Newland Avenue, who denied owning the dog.
But after further investigation, police determined Ryan Dietz had lied about not owning the dog because he didn’t want it anymore, and that prior to letting it loose he had thrown it down a flight of stairs.
Dietz was placed under arrest and it was then that officers say they discovered the 21-year-old had left a toddler home alone in his apartment while he was at a neighbor’s home.
Dietz is charged with overdriving or injuring an animal, have a dog at large and endangering the welfare of a child.
The dog was taken to the Jamestown Veterinary Hospital to be treated for a leg injury and for further evaluation.
