Troopers say they had to help a drunk driver out of his car that was buried in snow after he went off the road on Wednesday.
Police were called to Moscow Road at the Orleans/Monroe County line where a driver had gone off the road and was in a ditch. When troopers arrived, they found 63-year-old Thomas Ballou stuck in his car, which was buried in snow up to the windows.
Officers helped him out of his car and say they could tell he was drunk. Ballou reportedly smelled of alcohol and couldn’t stand without assistance. A later breath test revealed his BAC to be .33 percent, which is more than four times the legal limit.
He was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Ballou is charged with aggravated DWI, failing to use designated lane, imprudent speed, failure to stop at a stop sign, and not wearing a seatbelt.
