Several get calls from bogus IRS representative

Several law enforcement agencies have received calls this week from concerned citizens worried about calls from the IRS.

The caller tells the resident that they need to pay their overdue tax bill. But police say the federal organization does not ask for credit, debit or prepaid card information over the phone.

If you receive a call like this from the IRS, it is a scam and you can disregard the call. A legitimate tax bill would come through the mail.

Never give your personal information to anyone over the phone.

If you are concerned you owe taxes, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.

If you have further concerns, contact the FBI office in Buffalo at 716-856-7800.
