Two 15-year-olds were arrested early Thanksgiving morning after deputies say they took an unregistered, uninsured car out on a joy ride.
The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle on Hathaway Road in Castile around 2:30 a.m. Thursday for erratic operation and for failing to dim the high beams. Deputies say they quickly discovered the two 15-year-old boys inside had taken the unregistered, uninsured vehicle from a family member without permission.
During their joy ride, officers say the teens’ vehicle broke down and they were assisted by a motorist who didn’t realize the age of the people he was helping. The teens then began to drive around again before being stopped by deputies.
The vehicle was towed from the scene and the teens were returned to their respective homes.
Though no charges were placed for unlawful use of a motor vehicle, deputies say the teens could face charges over the stolen license plates they placed on the vehicle.
