Police search for owner of challenge coin found in Hamburg

Posted

Police in the Town of Hamburg are searching for the owner of a coin they believe has sentimental value.

The military challenge coin was found at the Hamburg Casino, police have not said when the coin was found. They first asked the public for help finding its owner Monday on the department's Facebook page.

The coin bears the insignia of the 25th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, along with locations of the division's military involvement from Pearl Harbor through World War Two, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. You can find out more about the division from the 25th Infrantry Division Association's website.

Challenge coins are often given by the military to recognize achievements of service members, so police think this coin is valuable to whoever lost it. If you recognize the coin or know who the owner may be, please call Lieutenant Jim Koch at (716) 649-6111 x2600.
