Police: Thieves target daycare parents

Police across Western New York are warning of a rash of car break-ins outside local daycare facilities.

Police in Amherst say cars were broken into at Doodle Bugs! on North French and Childtime on Hopkins Road. Two more locations were hit within two hours according to police including a daycare in Tonawanda and Doodle Bugs! in Clarence. Police say the same suspects attempted to do the same thing at Doodle Bugs! in Cheektowaga, but saw a worker outside and left the scene.

In each case, parents had just left their cars to go get their children inside the daycare facilities.

"The second I walked in, they went...smashed the window...grabbed my stuff and ran," said one parent. "There was glass all over the ground and my stuff was gone."

Police in Amherst say they are searching for suspects driving a dark sedan, possibly a Hyundi. One of the suspects is described as a white male between 30-35 years old.

"The vehicles were already in the lot waiting," said Amherst Police Lt. Tracy Martin. "It was quick."

Parents had valuables stolen such as credit cards, cash, purses and bags.

7 Eyewitness News reached out to Doodle Bugs! and the organization says it has "no comment."
