Proposed law could change the way dental work is done

Erie County Legislature Majority Leader, Joseph Lorigo introduced a law requiring dentists in Erie County to tell patients where their dentures, crowns, and bridges are made.

Manufacturers of dental prosthetics would have to disclose to dentists what type of raw materials were used to build the prosthetic and where it came from.

The United States currently doesn't require companies to unveil what materials were used.
Lorigo and several dental professions are concerned about this.

They say some dentists are having dentures, crowns, and bridges made with lead in countries like China. Some U.S. labs are even using other materials that are not approved by the Food And Drug Administration which could harm patients. Lorigo said many dentists are doing this to cut cost.

This proposed  law will be sent to Erie County Health and Human Service Committee in the Erie County Legislature.
The legislature will have a discussion on the proposed law and vote on it by the fall.
