Following several high-profile crashes over the past year, a community meeting will be held Monday night to address safety concerns on Route 20 in Hamburg.

"It's scary, it is," Evelyn Coggins, who lives off Route 20 said. "I've got teenagers driving so I'm always worried they're going to be in an accident or killed."

Among those crashes, four people were hurt in a crash at the intersection of Amsdell Road and Route 20 in April of 2015, (pictured above) and a drunk driver crashed into and killed a motorcyclist last October. There was also a crash in July that closed Route 20 between Amsdell Road and Pleasant Avenue for a short time.

Joseph Militello also uses Route 20 often and says he's had a few close encounters. "It is a big problem. Not only for the people in our development but the people that drive up and down."

Militello plans on attending Monday night's meeting along with New York assemblyman Sean Ryan (D-Buffalo) and representatives from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).

NYSDOT is currently conducting a traffic safety study on Route 20. Representatives will be available to answer questions about the study.

That meeting will take place at the Villas at Brierwood clubhouse at 5665 Southwestern Boulevard on Monday, January 25, 2016. It begins at 5:00 p.m.
