Rep. Collins in contentious CNN interview: Travel ban "putting America first"

Posted

New York representative Chris Collins is defending the travel ban on some Muslims, saying it's putting "America First."

In a often contentious interview with CNN's New Day Tuesday morning, Collins said, "the liberal media is trying to make something out of this," before also pointing to Democratic leaders in Congress.

Collins also called out 'the media' for calling this move a 'ban', less than a minute before calling it one himself.

"Oh, it's a ban," Collins said.

"I've heard a lot of people say, there's nothing wrong with a 90-day, 120-day pause as he's putting his administration together," Collins later said.

Collins was repeatedly asked to show an example of how refugees were a threat to Americans. He responded, "President Trump and his cabinet, his security advisers, are going to get his hands around what's best for America as he's just taking office. A 120-day pause is not that outrageous, as the Democrats are saying. He's getting his arms around it, and he's going to make sure that he knows what's going on, and I think America supports the 120-day pause."
